Kairnet
Local-first project management app: plain Markdown files, SQLite index, graph view, CLI and MCP server.
Kairnet is a local-first project management app I built myself. It manages projects from plain Markdown files stored on your machine: no accounts, no cloud, no subscriptions. It offers List and Kanban views (with Timeline, Graph and Gantt on the way), custom typed fields, Markdown templates, a knowledge graph of tasks and wikilinks, customisable themes and fast full-text search, all backed by SQLite indexing.

Inside the project
The challenge
Build a useful project manager around files people own. Tasks need the structure of a desktop app while remaining readable as Markdown, without requiring an account or a cloud service.
What I built
I built Kairnet with Tauri, Rust and Svelte. Markdown and YAML hold the project data, while SQLite provides indexing and full-text search. List and Kanban views work with typed fields and templates; a CLI and MCP server let other tools work with the same projects.
Result & current state
Kairnet is released for Windows, macOS and Linux, with English, French and Korean interfaces. Users can manage their projects locally and access them through the desktop app or automation tools. The gallery shows the application’s interface.
